As a child Tony Verruso’s only interaction with a horse was the occasional pony ride. His dad went to Roosevelt and Yonkers on a regular basis and as long as Tony received A’s in school he was allowed to go with him on weekends. In 1994 he visited Ben White Raceway, spoke to several trainers and began the long road to the winner’s circle. Eventually, after receiving the mandatory training in cleaning out barns, harness and horses, jogging mile upon mile in all types of weather, he was allowed to turn his horse! From then on there was no stopping Tony Verruso; he purchased his first trotter Spring Delta. His first race was at Monticello Raceway and he missed the gate! After that, |

although lacking experience, he kept practicing. Finally he won at Goshen’s Historic Track. His most exciting race in 2007 was at Chester Downs in the Billings Final in late November. Congratulations Tony! Thank you for your great support and most especially for your tremendous love of our great sport! For Hall of Fame Day and Induction Ceremony information click here |
