Bred by Susie Stafford, broodmare Benear was foaled on March 26, 2003 in Allentown, New Jersey. A world champion - setting the mark for older pacing mares on a 5/8-mile track (1:49.3f) at Chester Downs on July 9, 2007 - Benear raced for five years (2005-2009), earning $319,321. During her racing career she was owned by Alvin Stafford, George Hobbs, Jerry Silva, David Scharf and Gregory Martin. Benear’s current owner is Geoffrey Martin.
The progeny that qualified Benear for the Hall of Fame are 2014 Little Brown Jug winner Limelight Beach p,3,1:49.1 ($1,277,529); second-place finisher in the 2016 Breeders Crown and Cane Pace, Manhattan Beach p,3,1:49.2f ($581,988); and Momas Got A Gun p,3,1:50.1f ($509,844), all sired by 2015 Hall of Fame inductee Somebeachsomewhere.
