Biography:
Born in Barrington, New Hampshire in 1832, the son of a farmer, Hon. Frank Jones became a grocer, quickly making a fortune in commerce and brewing. He was elected mayor of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and served from 1868 to 1869, and then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1875 to 1879.
Jones always loved the trotter and established Maplewood Farm at Portsmouth, which became the best trotting nursery in the Northeast. There he bred many champions including Eleata and Idolita. He also took great pleasure in owning and operating Granite State Park (track). Hon. Frank Jones died in New Hampshire in 1902.
