Biography: 

Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms in Hanover, Pennsylvania, 2017 Horse of the Year and world champion trotting mare Hannelore Hanover was foaled on April 20, 2012. She raced from 2014-2019, with 46 wins in 87 lifetime starts, finishing on the board in 71 races while earning $3,069,857. During her racing career, she was owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Frank Baldachino and J&T Silva Stables, and driven primarily by Yannick Gingras.

Hannelore Hanover was lightly raced as a two-year-old with only two starts. As a three-year-old she earned $295,574 with 8 wins and 8 seconds in 19 races. Her biggest payday was in the Indiana Sire Stakes Super Final, winning easily in 1:54.

In 2016, four-year-old Hannelore Hanover posted a 20-17-2-0 race record with $1,119,111 in earnings. Major victories included the Breeders Crown, Hambletonian Maturity, Centaur Trotting Classic, Armbro Flight (in a world record-equaling 1:51) and TVG Free For All. She was voted Dan Patch and O’Brien Older Trotting Mare of the Year.

As a five-year-old in 2017, Hannelore Hanover’s 10 wins out of 17 starts included the Breeders Crown, Maple Leaf Trot, Armbro Flight, TVG Mares final and the Allerage at The Red Mile, where she recorded what was then the fastest mile in history by a trotting mare (1:49.2) and the fastest all-age trotting record on a mile track for both sexes. Hannelore Hanover finished the season with $1,049,129 in earnings and was voted 2017 Dan Patch and O’Brien Horse of the Year, Dan Patch Trotter of the Year, and Dan Patch and O’Brien Older Trotting Mare of the Year. She was the first trotting mare to be named Horse of the Year since Moni Maker in 1999.

In 2018, Hannelore Hanover had 6 wins in 13 starts including the Armbro Flight and Cutler Memorial. She wrapped up her racing career as a seven-year-old in 2019 with 4 additional wins.
