lady hathaway
Lady Hathaway p,2,1:57.4, by No Nukes and out of the Albatross mare Sable Hanover, was foaled on March 7, 1985. Bred by Magna Stables Company of Boonton, New Jersey, she was purchased by William Perretti in January of 1986.
Blind in one eye from a pasture incident which occurred when she was a weanling, Lady Hathaway was retired after two years of racing with earnings of $55,009. She then joined the broodmare band at Perretti Farms, where she produced eleven foals whose combined lifetime earnings total $3,385,589. Among her progeny were a pair of Matt's Scooter-sired standouts: His Mattjesty p,3,1:51s and Royal Mattjesty p,5,1:48.4. His Mattjesty won the 1996 Breeders Crown for two-year-old colt pacers and banked a career total of $1,038,861. Royal Mattjesty, the 2002 winner of a Messenger Stakes elimination, had lifetime earnings of $1,652,730. As a freshman, he briefly held the world race record for two-year-old pacers on a mile track with a 1:50.3 effort at Lexington on September 29, 2001. Other significant Lady Hathaway foals were Her Mattjesty p,2,1:54.1s and Lady Mattingly p,3,1:53, also sired by Matt's Scooter. As a two-year-old, Her Mattjesty embarked on a winning streak of five stakes races: a division of the 1998 Kentucky Standardbred Sales Company Pace, a division of the Champlain, and an elimination and the final of the Robert Stewart. She retired after her three-year-old season with career earnings of $391,889. Lady Mattingly's career total of $107,615 included a four-length winning effort in the 1996 Ladyship Stakes at the Meadowlands.
Lady Hathaway died from colic at Perretti Farms in July 2000 at the age of fifteen before she could deliver her first foal by Artsplace. Her last foal, Mattmoiselle, died tragically in a fire at Perretti Farms in March 2006.
