Biography:

Pacer Liberated Angel was the daughter of Meadow Skipper and the Bret Hanover mare Angel Hair. A foal of 1978, she earned $76,948 while taking a mark of 1:55.4 during her racing career. She was the dam of 12 foals with collective earnings of $2,644,279. The progeny that qualified Liberated Angel for the Hall of Fame as a broodmare were Leah Almahurst p,3,1:52.3 ($1,053,201) and Firm Belief p,5,1:51f ($625,801). Liberated Angel was bred by Hall of Fame Immortal William Shehan at his Clermont Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. At the time of her induction into the Living Horse Hall of Fame in 2001, Liberated Angel was owned by Brittany Farms in Versailles.

Liberated Angel won 7 of 45 starts, finishing on the board in 21. She claimed her lifetime mark 1:55.4 at DuQuoin at age 3.

Liberated Angel’s most noted offspring was 1985 filly world champion Leah Almahurst by Abercrombie. She was a Breeders Crown champion at 2. As a 3-year-old Leah Almahurst won a Mistletoe Shalee elimination, the Adioo Volo, the Jugette and the American-National. As a broodmare, Leah Almahurst went on to foal Make A Deal p,4,1:50.2 ($610,249) and world champion Western Ideal p,5,1:48 ($1,455,422), who won ten races at 1:50 or faster in 2000. Leah Almahurst died in December 1995 at age 10.

Liberated Angel’s 1993 colt Firm Belief by Abercrombie won a heat of the 1996 Little Brown Jug. Her 1996 colt Looking For Art p3,1:51.4 ($433,983) by Artsplace won a Jug heat and the Windy City Pace in 1999, but tragically died of Colitis X in November of his only racing year. Her 1999 colt Art’s Advantage p,5,1:50.2 ($312,618) by Artsplace was also a successful racehorse. Liberated Angel’s 1987 filly Freedom Aloft by Nihilator produced Dr Drew p,4,1:49.3 ($494,593) and J B Stena p,4,1:51.1 ($372,212). Liberated Angel was a full sister to Naughty But Nice p,3,1:54f ($1,062,197), 1984’s Three-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year.

Liberated Angel passed away at Brittany Farms in October of 2006. She was 28 years old.
