Biography:

Thomas M. Aldrich, a Trotwood, Ohio native, is renowned in the world of harness racing for his transformative role as general manager at Cleveland's Northfield Park. In 1985, he partnered with owner Carl Milstein, Myron Charna, and other key team members to revitalize the Northeast Ohio half-mile track. Under his leadership, high-profile races attracted top-tier horses and competitive race cards making Northfield a premier destination for harness racing enthusiasts and bettors alike. Aldrich was a hands-on leader, ever-present from the clubhouse to the backstretch with his walkie-talkie, ensuring every aspect of the track operated smoothly.

Aldrich’s passion for harness racing was ignited during childhood trips to Lebanon Raceway with his father Clyde. After earning degrees from Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law, he began his career as an administrative assistant to Stan Bergstein at Harness Tracks of America (HTA) from 1975 to 1977. He later served as executive secretary of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association (1978–1982) and subsequently became its general manager. Aldrich was at the helm at Rosecroft Raceway near Washington D.C. until 1985. It was there he met his late wife, Lynn Fortna.

Aldrich served as HTA president from 1996 to 1998, earned induction into the Ohio Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1999, and was named chief operating officer and executive vice president of Northfield Park in 2000. Though he retired from active management in 2013, Aldrich continues to contribute as an associate judge. He has also served as a director for both HTA and the United States Trotting Association, cementing his legacy in the industry.
