Biography: 

Sired by 1992 Horse of the Year Immortal Artsplace and bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, pacer Tsunami Hanover was foaled on April 23, 1994. She was purchased on September 10, 1995 at the New Jersey Classic Yearling Sale for $27,000 by Carol Chin-Quee of Old Bridge, New Jersey. Trained by Robert Di Certo, Tsunami Hanover raced from 1996 to 1999, finishing on the board in 30 of her 67 starts. Her most successful moneywinning year was her freshman season, when she won the Countess Adios and several New Jersey Sire Stakes events.

The progeny that qualified Tsunami Hanover for the Hall of Fame are Milton Stakes, Classic Distaff and James Lynch Pace winner, world champion Southwind Tempo p,6,1:48.2 ($2,396,362), New York Sire Stakes star Hula’s Z Tam p,2,1:52.3s ($693,810) and Southwind Tabor p,6,1:52.1h ($688,442). All three are by world champion sire Bettor’s Delight p,3,1:49.4 ($2,581,461).

In her five-year racing career (2006-2010), Southwind Tempo finished on the board in a remarkable 57 out of 67 starts, with 38 victories. She holds the world record for pacing mares on a five-eighths mile track (1:48.3) and the record for five-year-old and older pacing mares on a mile track (1:48.2). Southwind Tempo is a two-time Betsy Ross winner, with Milton Stakes, Classic Distaff, James Lynch, Lady Liberty, Lismore, Lady Catskill and Golden Girls victories also to her credit. Hula’s Z Tam won five New York Sire Stakes events as a freshman in 2009. She repeated the accomplishment in 2010, also winning the final. To date she has earned nearly $700,000. Southwind Tabor has been racing since 2005, finishing on the board in 92 of 176 starts to date. His richest moneywinning season was as a six-year-old in 2009, when he amassed $238,590.

In April 1999, Tsunami Hanover was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Allen Skolnick of Southwind Farms in Pennington, New Jersey, where she performs her broodmare duties. To date, Tsunami Hanover has produced four fillies and six colts, with total foal earnings of $4,030,339.
