Bred by Yankeeland Farms of Frederick, Maryland, trotter Yankee Glide was foaled on April 27, 1994. He was owned during his racing career by Robert Waxman and Jorgen Jahre Jr., then by Waxman, Jahre, Tom Crouch and Kentuckiana Farms, and the Yankee Glide Syndicate.

As a two-year-old in 1996, Yankee Glide won five of six starts, earning $342,145. Major victories included the New Jersey Sire Stakes final and the Peter Haughton Memorial. In his sophomore season, Yankee Glide finished on the board in 5 of 11 starts while earning $164,759. Major wins included a Hambletonian elimination and the Zweig Memorial.
