HALL OF FAME STALLION CANTAB HALL EUTHANIZED
Hanover, PA — Hanover Shoe Farms has announced that Hall of Fame stallion Cantab Hall was humanely euthanized Monday morning (Jan. 23) due to arthritic disabilities.
During his racing career Cantab Hall earned honors as the 2003 Dan Patch 2-year-old Trotting Colt of the Year and overall Trotter of the Year, earning $461,337 by winning 10 races in 10 starts including the Breeders Crown.
As a 3-year-old he earned $980,966, finishing in the top three 11 times in 13 starts, with his lifetime record of 1:54 at The Meadowlands, winning his division of the Dickerson and an elimination of the Stanley Dancer. He also was victorious in the $250,000 American-National and a Canadian Trotting Classic elimination, finishing second in the final.
As a sire, Cantab Hall’s lifetime progeny earnings total $114,839,082 to date including millionaires Father Patrick 3,1:50.2f ($2,558,133); Crystal Fashion 4,1:50 ($2,215,749); Wild Honey 3,1:50.4 ($1,589,235); Explosive Matter 3,1:52.3 ($1,510,542); Met’s Hall 3,1:51.2 ($1,295,306); Uncle Peter 4,1:50.3f ($1,290,660); and Lifetime Pursuit 3,1:50.4 ($1,065,586).
As a broodmare sire, his lineage has amassed $60,907,391 to date with his daughters producing the likes of Atlanta 6,1:49 ($3,533,707); Manchego 4,1:49 ($3,144,777); Ariana G 4,1:50.2 ($2,465,459); Southwind Frank 3,1:52.1 ($1,950,887); Six Pack 3,1:49.1 ($1,939,604); Jujubee 3,1:49.3 ($1,158,294); Jiggy Jog S 3,1:50 ($1,127,793); and Temporal Hanover 3,152.2s ($972,166).
Cantab Hall was inducted as a stallion into the Harness Racing Living Horse Hall of Fame in 2018.
Cantab Hall was a tough horse that commanded respect on the track and in the breeding shed. He was enjoying his last years in retirement at Hanover Shoe Farms in his paddock next to fellow retiree Andover Hall. He will be missed by those that worked with him.
